The investigation found suspected fill at a depth of about 2 m, beneath silt that did not look like fill. During remediation the picture became clear: in the 19th century a large farm stood here, then the site became the local tip before about 2 m of homogeneous silt was laid on top. All waste and all foundation remains from the farm buildings were removed, and groundwater flowing into the large excavations was pumped to mobile treatment units. In total 5,800 tonnes of contaminated material were excavated and 140 samples taken to make sure all contaminated soil had been removed. A multi-arena now stands on the site.
